Went to the Digital Mall at Section 14 last week because hubby needed to get a battery for his HP iPAQ PDA phone (used to be mine, hehe), a phone charger, and a laser pointer to be used during a presentation. Wanted to go earlier but was postponed due to the collapse of the ex-Jaya Supermarket building.

Thanks to the trip, I now found the next dream gadget to get my hands on – ASUS Eee PC 1000HE. 😛

Although I have been banking on the idea of getting a new laptop, mini laptops or netbooks never came across my mind until I saw it in one of the shops in Digital Mall. I was first looking at a pink Sony Vaio, which cost around RM3,300. Knowing that is not a price that I can afford, still I pretended to be interested and asked the sales personnel some questions, haha!

Then as I walked around the shop, eventually several small laptops got my attention. There were a couple of models from ASUS Eee PC range, but  ASUS Eee PC 1000HE was the one that I am interested in the most, mainly due to its 9.5 hours battery life. Hence the tagline “One Day Computing”. Although it is a mini laptop, it has a large hard disk storage of 160 GB, plus a 10 GB online storage. That’s so much more space compared to this laptop I’m using! Light weight, nice keyboard, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functions, this netbook is perfect for a lady who always suffer from shoulder ache carrying a heavy laptop. 😉 There is no CD driver though.

I don’t know if this is the best netbook to get, coz there are other mini laptops from HP and Acer as well. Guess I just have to check out netbook reviews on the internet. Then, I will see where on earth to add RM1599 into my pocket… 😛

  1. Hey hey. I’m a user of ASUS Eee PC 1000H :)
Been using it for the past 2-3 months or so and it’s been gr8.
Lightweight, powerful and yes, the claim for the long battery life is for real! Not a scam at all. Plus, it looks sleek too with its nice black/white finishing. Definitely recommended.

I’m using with Windows XP though ‘coz my supplier (Tan Boon Heong Sdn Bhd in Mid Valley Megamall) says Vista’s lousy. Haha.

I got mine for about RM 1530 (after some offer and I added 1 year to my warranty).

  2. Hi Mayz! Thanks for sharing. :) Do you mean that I must request for Windows XP instead of Vista when I buy the net book from them? I’m using Windows XP all the while, didn’t really know how Vista looks like, haha! I will check out the shop you mention; do they offer monthly installment plan? I definitely need to pay by installment! 😛

  3. Hi.You should consider seriously what you want before considering laptop or netbook (small laptop as you said).Actually its is not comparable to laptop. I myself got both laptop and netbook.Netbook using low processing processor, then by that the netbook can use very minimal power thus enhance the battery life. But the drawback is you processing speed decrease. Mostly netbook using Intel Atom coz Atom use minimal power.
If… If you do heavy task, such as you want to do movie editing, or photo editing, or doing many multiple task at once, you may see the speed decrease, and even sometimes maybe the apps can crash/hang. But, if you want to do just light task, such as surfing the net, editing word… then its ok.
Dont be influence by the seller, they word is much more sweetier than the sugar itself…

  4. Hi Penjejak, thanks for the advice! I am considering a netbook because I work from home but am always out of the house, haha! But I need to work on my assignments or access internet all the time, so I need a light one to travel with me. Not going to install heavy applications, just the usual ones – office, acrobat reader, simple photo editing software eg. ACDsee and photoscape….. usually use it to blog, watch youtube, watch DVD… should be okay, right?

  5. Asus Eee is very convenient to carry. It is my walkaround laptop wherever i go. The battery life could have been better though

  6. Asus Eee is perfect for ladies who does not want to carry a very heavy laptop. i like the Asus Eee because it is very compact and easy to carry anywhere.

  7. i recently bought a white Asus Eee PC and i am very surprised about the size of this machine. it is very small and lightweight compared to my Toshiba laptop.
